  Since the launch of SP25M the probe has been further developed as part of Renishaw’s ongoing continuous improvement programme. This bulletin introduces the SH25-#A range of stylus holder – specifically designed to meet the challenges posed by cranked or non-straight stylus arrangements. It also sets out the revised stylus carrying capability of the SP25M compact scanning probe and provides examples of typical test results from trials conducted by Renishaw. SP25M gives exceptional scanning performance over its entire stylus length range. This has been achieved by use of a dedicated set of scanning modules (SM25-1/2/3/4), each optimised to carry a specific stylus length range whilst maintaining a low contact force band and maximised sensor performance.

  When we explained our software structure plans in product bulletin PBC-1040 (10th December 2007) and when we announced the launch of the UCClite-2 controller in PBC-1179 (6th March 2008), we implied that the UCClite-2 would only be supported by a UCCserver (I++DME) interface. We realise that not all application software packages have a completed I++DME interface available at this time, so we are extending our support of native interfaces to cover the UCClite-2 controller in our current V4.1 release of UCCserver software. If you are operating with a native (COM) interface the basic motion commands will be available. The advanced motion control algorithms, which include profiled acceleration, are only available through the UCCserver (I++DME) interface.

The ACC2-2 dual communication autochange controller was made obsolete in March 2002 and we have supported it through a repair and RBE service for the past 6 years. We now have very few replacement sub-assemblies and units remaining, so soon we will no longer be able to offer an exact replacement. The ACC2-2 dual communication autochange controller supports both the RS232 and IEEE communication standards. In 2002 the dual unit was replaced by an RS232 (only) version. The IEEE communication standard has not been used for new CMM controller products for the last 10 years.

The AC1 Interface card was made obsolete in April 2002 and we have supported it with RBE product for the past 6 years. We now have very few replacement units remaining, so soon we will no longer be able to offer an exact replacement. The AC1 Interface card was designed for use with the SP600 range of analogue scanning probes and is based on a 12-bit analogue to digital converter giving 1 μm resolution. It was superseded by the AC2 Interface card which is based on a more accurate 16-bit analogue to digital converter which gives 0.1 μm resolution. The AC2 is available as a standard product.

  As part of Renishaw’s continuous product improvement program, we have reviewed the design of the SPA2 Servo Power Amplifier system and a new Mk.2 version, SPA2-2, is now available. The new SPA2-2 has been redesigned to simplify both the customer configuration process and in-house manufacturing. As part of these changes we have now incorporated motor encoder functionality as standard onto the main PCB. This means that for CMMs fitted with rotary encoders, for motor velocity control, a separate encoder plug in card is no longer required. All the motor type option cards and the additional axis card have also been updated to be compatible with the new enclosure design. The additional axis card is now fitted in the opposite side of the unit over the power supply.
